}}
The Tasmanian Government Railways (TGR) M Class is a design of 4-6-2 steam locomotive built by Robert Stephenson and Hawthorns in 1952. Ten were built for use on light passenger and mixed trains on the mainline railways of Tasmania, and saw service from 1952 to 1975.
==History==

After World War II, the TGR were adamant on reconstructing and modernising their ageing fleet of mainline locomotives. Seeking to supplement their current stock, and to displace a number of locomotives designed in the 1920s, the company ordered ten 4-6-2 light passenger/freight locomotives from Robert Stephenson and Hawthorns in 1951.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.railtasmania.com/loco/m.htm )
The locomotive was based upon a design known as the YB class; manufactured for the Indian Railways from 1927 and Burma Railways in 1947.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.railpage.com.au/f-p590135.htm )
